I'm Karis.
I first found photography when I was a single mother working as a first responder in New Orleans. As the weight of my work in a violent city increased and personal responsibility continued without support, I began experiencing debilitating symptoms from PTSD. In its own way, photography saved me.
First as an escape, later as an entry into emotional processing, my camera, my sexuality, and my individuality found healing and a whole new world containing self-acceptance, community, art.
Today, I am still a single mom with PTSD, but I am also queer, polyamorous, empowered, authentic, and unafraid. I am a photographer.
It is my goal through my work to showcase every subject's essence, empowerment, and authenticity through my lens. Together we will tell a story that cannot be ignored.
